Memories of a Busy 2011
We kept ourselves pretty busy in 2011, with performances at rest homes, the Chino Valley Health and Business Expo, the Windmill House and Freeman Farms. We travelled to competition in Jean, NV, and to Vigilante Days in Tombstone. We rode in 3 parades, took shopping trips to Winter Range and fabric stores, and toured the Vulture Mines.
The Grand National Competition 2011 in Jean, Nevada
We didn't come home with an award for our skits, but both of our skits came off very well under difficult conditions, and we really sparkled in the other competitions at Jean. Boots and Bustles presented FIVE living histories, by far the largest percentage from any club present. Cheryl presented Nellie Cashman the Angel of the Mines, Robbie reprised Molly Miller two years after the death of her husband, and Sue A. was wonderful as Thelma Mary Russell - sharing her experience of traveling across the Western frontier with a wagon train.
Smokey has made the character of Hobart his own (you should have seen him with a two-week growth of beard!), and Sue M. presented Fanny Bashford's Prescott School of Needlework. We made a good showing in the costume competitions too. Sam took a second place in the Law Dog category, Cheryl took first place as a Sporting Lady as the French Madame Lizette, and second place for overall Ladies clothing for the entire weekend. Sue A took a second place in the Townswoman category, with the debut of her FABULOUS widow's weeds. Sue M took first place in the Townswoman category and third overall in Ladies for the entire weekend.
Once again the weather was awful, and the rising wind forced Living Histories into the casino for the second time although they were much better with everyone "mik'ed", courtesy of the Boots and Bustles sound system. Caesar the RGA sound guy thanked us more than once.
