Boots and Bustles Have Strong Showing at the Grand National Competition 2011 in Jean, Nevada
We didn't come home with an award for our skits, but both of our skits came off very well under difficult conditions. Virgilene was GREAT in her premiere speaking performance in "The Widow's Revenge", and we really sparkled in the other competitions at Jean last weekend. Boots and Bustles presented FIVE living histories, by far the largest percentage from any club present. Cheryl presented Nellie Cashman – the Angel of the Mines, Robbie reprised Molly Miller two years after the death of her husband, and Sue A. was wonderful as Thema Mary Russell - sharing her experience of traveling across the Western frontier with a wagon train. Smokey has made the character of Hobart his own (you should have seen him with a two-week growth of beard!), and Sue M. presented Fanny Bashford's Prescott School of Needlework. In my opinion, some of our folks really deserved to place in the LH category – and all were wonderful. The judges actually did tell Robbie that she had placed fourth. I will send a note to Molly to see if we can get all of the score sheets. We made a good showing in the costume competitions too. Sam took a second place in the Law Dog category, Cheryl took first place as a Sporting Lady as the French Madame Lizette, and second place for overall Ladies clothing for the entire weekend. Sue A took a second place in the Townswoman category, with the debut of her FABULOUS widow's weeds. Sue M took first place in the Townswoman category and third overall Ladies for the entire weekend. Once again the weather was awful, and the rising wind forced Living Histories into the casino
for the second time – although they were much better with everyone "mik'ed", courtesy of the Boots and Bustles sound system. Caesar – the RGA sound guy – thanked us more than once.
We enjoy life to its fullest and try not to let the little things get to us.
We make our clothes, buy and embellish, or just buy and wear. This includes the corsets, hats, hat pins, guns, holsters, spurs and the rest of the trappings. We would like to invite all of you to be active with the Boots and Bustles, the best old west reenactment social club in Prescott, AZ.
Rule #1... there are no stinkin' rules
